Pac-12 Network & DirecTV Appear To Be Miles Apart

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-US PRESSWIRE

The Pac-12 Network and DirecTV are digging in for a long, protracted battle in negotiations according to commissioner Larry Scott.

Larry Scott was at the Arizona State vs. Oregon game yesterday, and his halftime Q&A with reporters didn't leave much promise that his conference will come to an agreement with the satellite provider anytime soon. Scott was miffed that the satellite company wasn't listening to its dissatisfied customers on the issue. The Pac-12 Network is holding firm, as is DirecTV. Neither side is any closer to getting the deal they want from the other, and here we go again!

For those who aren't familiar with what the issues are on both sides...

DirecTV wants to lower the price as much as possible so they don't have to foot as much of the bill.

The Pac-12 wants to keep the price the way it is because that's the deal they've offered to everyone else.

The Pac-12 lowering the price for DirecTV would mean they'd have to lower the subscription costs for all other cable and satellite providers that are already signed up in order for the other satellite and cable providers not to cry foul.

The Pac-12 won't budge on their deal. DirecTV won't budge on wanting a better deal.

And here we are! A long way from anything being fixed.

Time to look at Dish or local cable providers if you want the Pac-12 Network. I'd start with the Pac-12 Channel Finder and go from there.
