It's been a rough week for Cal football fans with the loss of Tosh Lupoi to UW. A lot of their top recruiting targets are saying won't make the pain go away any easier.
Ellis McCarthy (DT, Monrovia) flipped from Cal to UCLA. McCarthy was always a target to change his commitment from Cal as his parents were big UCLA fans and his father knows knew DBs coach Demetrice Martin very well. The departure of Tosh seemed to seal the deal, although the move has apparently been planned for awhile. More from Bud Elliott of SB Nation Recruiting here.
Shaq Thompson (S, Grant) was almost considered a Cal lock before the catastrophic news about Tosh. He now seems to have the Bears 50-50 with the Huskies, his other co-favorite before the Army All-American Game. Tosh was considered a huge factor in his recruitment and he's pretty close with UW defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox. You have to feel pretty good if you're a Washington fan. SB Nation Recruiting has more.
Arik Armstead (DE, Pleasant Grove) is probably not staying out West. Unless he goes dark horse and picks Oregon, Armstead has eliminated Cal and is likely headed to Auburn or Notre Dame with his brother Armond.
Jordan Payton (WR, Oaks Christian) stays committed to Cal, but will take visits to Washington and UCLA.
No word on the still uncommitted Aziz Shittu (DE, Buhach Colony) but this tweet seems to suggest that he was strongly considering Cal. This will likely be a battle with Stanford, who recently accepted him into their program.
Moving onto other Pac-12 recruiting news.
Javelle Allen (QB, Prosper) committed to Arizona. Allen apparently is a quarterback Rich-Rod really took a liking to and had great numbers in high schoool. Despite a small offer list, you can already start thinking of making those Pat White comparisons.
T.J. Millweard (QB, All Saints Episcopal) appears to be a UCLA-Arizona State battle.
Zach Banner (OT, Lakes) will make his decision Signing Day. He's taking his official to UCLA this weekend.
Ian Taubler (TE, Bullard) is happy with his Bruins commitment. Don't expect that to change.
Randall Golforth (CB, Long Beach Poly) has three official visits to ASU, UCLA, and UW--expect him to pick one of them.
Eddie Printz (2013 QB, Lassiter) didn't waste any time committing to the UCLA Bruins. Printz is interestingly from Georgia, so we'll see if this commitment sticks if bigger offers from the Southern schools come along.
Luke Kaumatule (DE, Punahou) is committed to Stanford, but will take visits in case he doesn't qualify. Colorado, UCLA, Washington are all expected to factor in as all will get or have gotten official visits.
Ka'imi Fairbairn (K, Punahou) will choose either UCLA (current verbal) or Cal.
Jake Roh (2013 WR, Chaparral) received offers from Oregon State and Arizona.
