2012 Olympics Medal Count: Pac-12 Nation Tied For Third With Seven Medals

The first two days of the 2012 Olympics are wrapping up, and the newest medal updates have both the California Golden Bears and the USC Trojans landing gold medals.

Dana Vollmer from Cal won a gold medal in the 100 meter butterfly final, setting a world record in the process. Vollmer was the favorite going into this event and she proved herself h with an outstanding swim.

Clement Lerfert of USC helped France overtake the United States thanks to a strong third leg to put France on top. With Lefert's gold, the Trojans now mantains an active streak since the 1912 Olympics of winning gold.

Nathan Adrian of Cal was the first leg of the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay final for the USA, finishing with a silver medal after France overtook the United States on the relay leg. Vladimir Morozov of USC was part of the Russian team that edged out favorites Australia for a medal.

Early on in these Olympics, Cal has one gold, one silver and two bronze medals, USC has one gold and two bronzes. A more official medal count table will be coming along later these Olympics. The Pac-12 thus has two gold, one silver, and four bronze medals, which would put them in a tie for third place with Italy in the overall medal count.
