After beginning the season with a seven game win streak, Washington softball had their first loss February 20th against #14 Texas A&M in Palm Springs. They rebounded the next game with a win over Central Michigan by a score of - wait for it - 23 to 0. Poor Chippewas... They never stood a chance.
Of the Huskies' first ten games, four have been run-rule wins by a combined score of 60-8, and three have been wins over ranked teams, including Oklahoma and Minnesota.
Washington entered the season ranked #20 in the ASA USA Softball poll before climbing to #9. They are currently at #8 and open next weekend's series with a double-header against #1 Florida and Oklahoma State.
Following the team's success over the weekend, multiple players received individual accolades; Catcher Morganne Flores was recognized as the Pac 12's freshman of the week while junior shortstop Ali Aguilar was Louisville Slugger/NFCA's National Player of the Week. In her three starts, Flores batted .600 with two RBIs and a home run. Aguilar meanwhile batted .444 with four doubles, two home runs, and 13 RBIs while scoring nine times.
Other Pac 12 teams in the top 25 include Oregon at #7, while historical powers UCLA and Arizona dropped to #10 and #16. Arizona State and Cal remained at #17 and #25.
Pac 12 play begins March 19th against Oregon.
