It wouldn’t come as much of a surprise to most Pac-12 fans and especially to Oregon Ducks fans that Justin Herbert was ranked ahead of former Alabama Crimson Tide QB Tua Tagovailoa but perhaps it does to the national media.
That’s according to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, who stated that he’s heard from multiple NFL teams that they have Herbert ranked ahead of Tagovailoa for several reasons.
“I’m hearing multiple teams prefer Justin Herbert to Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa because of injuries and the unknown,” Miller said on the Stick to Football Podcast. “I was actually talking to a high-level team executive yesterday and he said ‘in a normal year, you can make the argument that Tua should be the No. 2 overall pick and maybe the No. 1 overall pick but because you’re taking a third-party’s word for it when it comes to his medicals at this point in time, teams are going to be a little bit hesitant.”
“And because of that, this source, and other team officials as well, have told me ‘don’t be surprised if Justin Herbert is the second quarterback picked because there are no questions about injuries in his evaluation.’”
Not to mention, Herbert is a rock-solid, prototypical passer for today’s NFL and is incredibly mobile when it comes to his maneuverability in the pocket and outside of it.
The 2020 NFL Draft is rapidly approaching and we’ll be following along closely, especially if we’re thinking that Herbert could potentially go as high as No. 2 overall at that quote’s rate above.
It’s been awhile since we’ve had a Duck QB go No. 2 overall already, jeez, what have they been doing?
