Oregon Football: Ducks Not Guaranteed To Hold Off Kansas State, Notre Dame For Title Bid

The Oregon Ducks aren't guaranteed to hold off the Kansas State Wildcats and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for a BCS National Championship bid. When's that playoff coming again?

Matt Kartozian-US PRESSWIRE

Who is your favorite to win the Pac-12 South? Looks like it's up for grabs at this point.

Andy Wooldridge, Building The Dam (Oregon State): No, and its why the expanded, 4 team playoff needs to have been implemented this year; an undefeated Pac-12 team should be guaranteed a top 4 finish.

Kansas St.'s overall schedule has many more top 25-35 opponents, and its going to be hard to argue against an undefeated ‘Cats team, especially if Oklahoma ends the Notre Dame talk.

Jack Follman, Pacific Takes - No, but I don't think any of them should have a guaranteed spot. It will all come down to whose schedule looks the best at the end of the year and based on how I would predict things unfolding the undefeated SEC team is a legitimate shoe in but if all four of those teams go undefeated it would be a very tough decision. The bad news for the Ducks though I think that if Notre Dame goes undefeated, I think the NCAA would be really pulling to make sure the Irish get in. Also (cue Oregon fan explaining that KSU pulled out of a game), Oregon's non-conference schedule was inexcusable, so I would have a hard time rationalizing them over Notre Dame,or Kansas State who will end up playing a tougher conference schedule and beat Miami.

Nick Kranz, California Golden Blogs (Cal)
: If they run the table in the same fashion they've been winning games it would be a travesty if Oregon is left out of the national title game. But if Kansas State or Notre Dame record a bunch of blowout wins and Oregon struggles to put away some weaker teams, maybe we can open up the discussion.

By the way, do we have a playoff yet?

David Piper, Addicted to Quack (Oregon)
- You do know that Kansas State backed out of a home-and-home with Oregon this season, right? I will say it would be awfully hard to justify leaving the Ducks out if they continue to win all of their games by 3+ scores. Oregon's SOS ratchets up significantly in November. Lets just say I'm concerned, but there is a lot of football to be played.

Adam Butler, Pac Hoops & Pacific Takes (Arizona) - Guaranteed is a tough word to play with but Oregon running the table would mean that they've likely beaten USC twice and Oregon State once. That's an impressive feat and BCS championship rewardable; granted, I'm not a computer.

Trevor Wong, Conquest Chronicles (USC):
Should they be guaranteed? Likely no. Should they deserve one? That's a better question. Oregon has looked every bit dominant in every single game this year. Its strength of schedule can be disputed up until this point, but should they beat USC on the road, Oregon State on the road and possibly USC again in the Pac-12 game in the coming weeks, that's pretty good. I think it also helps that the Pac-12 has gotten significantly better this year in terms of competition from a year ago, which should help their cause.

Scott Allen, Rule of Tree (Stanford): I'm going to assume Notre Dame doesn't make it through the season undefeated and it's unfathomable that an undefeated SEC team would be left out of the title game. It all depends on how teams like Stanford, USC, Oregon State, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Texas Tech play down the stretch. Both Oregon and Kansas State figure to have some impressive wins on their resume by the end of the season, but just how impressive those wins will seem in December remains to be seen.
