Defensive lineman DeForest Buckner of the Oregon Ducks was selected 7th by the San Francisco 49ers. Buckner was one of the top defenders taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, and will be a formidable foe for any team to deal with this season. Buckner's athleticism and aggressiveness will be much appreciated at the next level, and he figures to be a fixture for many teams for years to come.
Buckner was the 2015 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and one of six finalists for the Ted Hendricks Award. Buckner earned first-team All-America accolades by USA Today and second-team honors from the Associated Press and Football Writers Association of America and led or shared the team lead in stops on four occasions. Buckner tallied more total tackles than any any of the school's previous down linemen in the past 27 years. He became the sixth Duck - fourth on defense - to win the prestigious Morris Trophy, voted on by opposing Pac-12 linemen who lined up across from him.
