USC Coaching Rumors: Tennessee Talking To Tee Martin

New head coach Butch Jones of the Tennessee Volunteers is reaching out to USC Trojans wide receivers coach Tee Martin for their new coaching staff.

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

Could Lane Kiffin have to search for a wide receiver coach in due time? New Tennessee head coach Butch Jones is reaching out to a face familiar to fans at Rocky Top, one Tee Martin.

A job would have to be appealing for Martin in Knoxville. As nice as Los Angeles might be, returning back to the spot where he won a national championship as a quarterback would probably be a job he might favor. Martin is from Alabama, coached at Kentucky before coming to USC, and might be persuaded to come to Knoxville for the right salary and maybe a partial promotion (maybe handling both quarterbacks and wide receivers?).

The job Martin has done with Belitnikoff winner Marqise Lee has been astonishing. Lee and Robert Woods didn't miss a beat, and the USC pass attack became even more explosive with Lee and Woods, averaging over 13 yards per catch.

USC could be in a transition period offensively next season, so this might be a good time for Martin to bail. Matt Barkley is off to the NFL Draft, leaving question marks as to who will be the next guy in line to replace him. There's a good chance Woods could leave for the NFL Draft, leaving Lee and Nelson Agholor as his main receivers in the west. The remaining recievers (De'Von Flournoy, Victor Blackwell and George Farmer) each have had one reception each.

That would mean the fourth wide receiver coach in four years for Kiffin, although USC's passing game has probably been the strongest component of Kiffin's tenure.
