Cal’s Matt Anderson the only Pac-12 player to make Lou Groza Award watch list

Pretty short list.

The Pac-12 has generally been a healthy place for kickers, but it looks like 2017 is going to be a leaner year. Zane Gonzalez won the award last year for the Arizona State Sun Devils (Gonzalez finished his career at ASU with the most NCAA field goals (96), points (494), and kicked the longest field goal in Arizona State history at 59 yards), but he’s gone, as are a host of senior kickers. Expect to see plenty of missed field goals early and often this Pac-12 season.

There is only one nominee from the Pac-12 this year: California Golden Bears kicker Matt Anderson, who had a really solid season last year. Anderson has been one of Cal’s most reliable kickers, and could be a critical part of a Golden Bear team rebooting their offense.

There’s going to be a ton of kickers this season who have a chance to climb this chart, but for now it’s Anderson alone representing the Pac.
