The Stanford Cardinal have their third selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. Linebacker Blake Martinez joins offensive lineman Joshua Garnett and tight end Austin Hooper in the pros, as he was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round. Martinez hopes to become the first successful Stanford linebacker in the league; Trent Murphy, Shayne Skov and A.J. Tarpley have bounced around but haven't found traction yet.
Martinez was the lynchpin of Stanford's defense the last few seasons. Martinez led the team in tackles in 2014 and led the the Pac-12 in tackles per game in 2015, and honored numerous All-American and All-Pac-12 honors. Martinez is one of those physical attacking linebackers who always has a nose for the ball, possessing great instincts and tackling ability and never losing sight of his man. Martinez could slate well as a future inside linebacker in this league in the right system, and the Packers could definitely use some help at the position.
Stanford fans, your thoughts on Martinez being selected by the Pack?
