WSU Football: Cougars Look To Move Past Marquess Wilson

The Washington State Cougars are struggling through a rough season, and then they had to deal with the Marquess Wilson letter.

William Mancebo

Another rough week for Washington State, but the Cougars did fight back. What are the biggest positives from the UCLA loss? What are the biggest negatives?

Michael Preston, CougCenter:
Even though WSU made up much of the deficit against UCLA in the second half, they still fought for every point. Given the circumstances before the game with Marquess Wilson's letter being released just three hours prior to kickoff, they easily could've played their worst game of the year. Although the first half certainly looked like it, they still gave their best effort of the season in the second half.

In terms of the biggest negative, it has to be special teams. Two blocked field goals, one returned for a touchdown and blocked punt in the first half is just atrocious.

What are your thoughts on the Marquess Wilson situation and the university's response?

Michael Preston, CougCenter: I'll wait for all the details to come out from the university and conference's investigation but initially, it was incredibly shocking. Wilson's letter was worded about as strongly as it could be and took the entire fanbase aback. But given the timeline of the letter's release and Wilson's issues with the coaching staff in the spring, it raises a lot of suspicion as to how much of what's alleged to have occurred is true. Whether we or the university believes they're true or not, the school made the right move investigating these charges fully.
