ASU Basketball Recruiting: Kodi Justice, Arizona State commit Q&A

Pacific Takes chats with 2014 ASU commit, Kodi Justice.

Kodi Justice

Kodi Justice is a 6-5 guard from Mesa, Arizona. After his freshman year at Dobson High School, Justice committed to Arizona State University. The consensus three-star recruit joins guard Tra Holder and center Connor MacDougall as 2014 commits to the Sun Devils. Pacific Takes caught up with Justice to learn more about his game and his plans this summer.

Pacific Takes: Describe your game. What are some of your strengths and weaknesses?
Kodi Justice:
I want to work on everything. I want to get strong and get more athletic to play at the next level. As for strenths, I shoot the ball well, I'm a good passer and I'll do anything to help my team win.

PT: Are there any NBA or NCAA palyers you try to model your game after?
KJ:
I watch and try to learn from a lot of players, but since I'm from Arizona, I've always watched Steve Nash since his time as a Phoenix Sun. I also watch a lot of Kevi Durant and do my best to try and take things to mimic from his game.

PT: Why did you choose to commit to Arizona State?
KJ:
There's a lot of reasons. Arizona St. is close to home and I'll get a chance to play in front of my friends. The school is only ten to 15 minutes away from where I live right now. I've always been a fan of Arizona St., I went to a lot of football and basketball games growing up. The program has great coaches; Herb Sendeck is a good coach. I think I'm a perfect fit for their system; everyone shares the ball and looks to find open shooters - it's a great system.

PT: When did you commit to Arizona State?
KJ:
I committed after the end of my freshman year. I received a lot of interest and scholarship offers from other schools, including Oregon State. However, I knew Arizona St. was the perfect fit for me to help me develop into a player and get to the next level. Arizona St. was the best option for me.

PT: What position do you see yourself playing at the next level?
KJ:
I play point guard for my high school team, but I play shooting guard on my AAU team, so I can play either one.

PT: Has Arizona State indicated to you what position they see you playing for them?
KJ:
No, we haven't had any discussion about it, but I'm willing to play either position and do whatever it takes to help the team win.

PT: What are your summer plans?
KJ: Right now I'm playing with Compton Magic. We have big tournaments in Indiana and at the Adidas 64 and I'll be training constantly with a basketball trainer. It's non-stop. I'm willing to do anything to help me prepare for my senior season.

PT: What are your goals for your senior season at Dobson HS?
KJ: Our goal is obviously to win a state championship. Individually, I want to become a leader and try to take that mentality to Arizona St. and eventually help the Sun Devils win a national championship.
