Washington Huskies football: Steve Sarkisian facing pressure in 2013

Sark will have to do a lot to ensure that he stays Washington's head coach in 2013, and it doesn't start easy with an opening game against Boise State.

Listen to the entirety of the SB Nation at Pac-12 Media Day 2013 podcast!

Avinash Kunnath: Jack, you're like a general Pac-12 writer, but you're also a Washington Huskies fan. You know a lot about the pressure that Steve Sarkisian is facing this year. What are your thoughts on how Sark handled his press conference?

Jack Follman, Pacific Takes: I thought he did a really good job. I actually was joking in the live chat when we got started, [with] the first question about 7-6 "His life must just be 7-6 over and over and over again." And it's also gotta be scary because if you look at their schedule and that could really be another destination for them.

So i mean he's just a really personable guy. He's kind along the lines of the Moras or Kiffins … who are kind of more politician-y. So I always think he does really well in these types of situations. But he also says what he has to say. Because I feel some of the guys they just want to get away, they're no-nonsense. And some of the guys, maybe like Mora and Kiffin, are a little too politician-y, he kind of blends them both. He kind of gives you like the wrap you want to hear, but he's also like, "Oh, I'm just not going to say anything."

AK: Hey, what's up Anthony. We have a new member here, Anthony Cassino, UW Dawg Pound! You've just been grilling Steve Sarkisian...

Anthony Cassino, UW Dawg Pound: I just kept going.

AK: You just kept going! Yeah.

AC: For the first like 20 minutes or so, it was about Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Kasen Williams, so he's just repeating the same stuff he's been saying for the last couple of weeks.

AK: Do you feel like Sark is under any pressure at all? Do you feel like he senses that this is a big season for him?

AC: Yeah, absolutely, he seems more business-like than he has in season's past. He's more focused I guess. Not smiling so much, not laughing so much, not joking around as much. He's got a lot of pressure on him to win this year.
