For Immediate Release:
The Pac-12 is pleased to announce our Week 3 Players of the week from our third week of action in our recreated 2019 season.
Offensive Player of the Week:
Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
23-of-35, 259 yards, 3 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, 18 rushing yards, 1 rush touchdown
Herbert got the Ducks moving and moving early, connecting on three touchdown tosses including two in the first half as well as rushing in a touchdown in the opening quarter. Herbert totaled four touchdowns in the game including a 58-yard touchdown to Juwan Johnson in the third quarter that officially put the game out of reach, giving Oregon a 38-14 lead entering the fourth. He wouldn’t have to do much more as he sat out the majority of the fourth quarter in what turned out to be a blowout victory against Tennessee.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Joe Tryon, LB, Washington
6 solo tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble
Tryon was quite literally all over the field for the Huskies in their dominant defensive performance against Illinois. Tryon racked up six solo tackles and another five assists, including six tackles for loss and three sacks. His forced fumble early in the fourth quarter set up a Salvon Ahmed 3-yard touchdown run that gave Washington an insurmountable 21-7 lead in the game’s final quarter. He also had a pass deflection that was negated by penalty in the game to boot.
Coach of the Week:
Mario Cristobal, Oregon
Cristobal earned his paycheck in entering Neyland Stadium in front of a raucous crowd and downing the Volunteers. His team never wavered and he even made two gutsy calls to go for it on fourth down, each of which led to touchdown tosses by Justin Herbert on their drive’s culmination. Cristobal coached a sound game and saw an all-around team effort pull off an impressive win against an SEC foe.
