Around SBN: Omer Asik In Celtic Green?

"Somewhere Mike Slive of the SEC and Larry Scott of the Pac-12 are kicking back with a cackle of delight. These guys are angling for every possible edge while the Big Ten and the Rose Bowl sit in adjacent bathtubs, holding hands and waiting for the moment to be right."

Hard to see what the Big Ten gains from this, but oh well. Pac-12 would be happy to host Rose Bowl games instead of neutral site games, no skin off their bones.

More on this later.

Dan Wetzel is a tool
The Big Ten has abandoned its smart, savvy push for a playoff that featured on-campus semifinal sites and a title game open to bid by cities across the country, including the Midwest, because it just couldn’t bear the thought of cheating on a bowl game.

When I saw that Dan Wetzel had authored this story, I had a feeling that it be a poor article and after reading it, nothing has changed my opinion. His quote above is highly inaccurate and his motives disingenuous.

While both the Pac12 and the Big10 could have supported the on campus model for semifinal games which is similar to having the Pac12 championship game at the site of the team with the better record, they would have never done so at the detriment to the Rose Bowl. Therefore this is no new revelation or an about face as the article makes it seem.

Furthermore, I suspect Wetzel has an axe to grind with the Big10 and the Pac12 because both conferences support conference champions in this so called new playoff system and HE DOES NOT.

Spot on

Wetzel is a hack who doesn’t like the fact there will not be a home field playoff system. Something he has pushed for repeatedly. Instead of writing an article explaining why it’s a mistake to step away and why the Big10 is doing so, he is taking a shot at Delaney instead. Why bash the B1G and Delaney for realizing they were not going to win day and moving on to the next best option for them? I often wonder how Wetzel keeps his job.

Totally Agree

A few days ago he wrote an article just SIMPLY stating that the playoff model should be the 4 best teams, with benefit of no analysis to back up his claim. He sounded like Stalin.

I wonder too how he keeps his job. But then again Yahoo highly values articles about the Kardasians every other week.

I don't give a darn about Wetzel, but the plain fact is that the Pac is also 'In Love' with the Rose Bowl

I’d be happy to pitch the BCS and any playoff plans and simply go back to the traditional bowl system.
