#1 David Shaw, Stanford Cardinal head coach: All Shaw has done in his three years at Stanford is take the Cardinal to two Pac-12 championships, two Rose Bowls, and a third BCS at-large appearance. Stanford is not going anywhere these next few seasons and figures to be a constant menace in the Pac-12 for years to come. The big issue with Shaw is whether he can win with his own recruits and not Jim Harbaugh's. We will have our answer soon enough.
#9 Mike Leach, Washington St. Cougars head coach: Leach has become an iconic figure in college football for his awesome quotes and just all-around idiosyncracies. He is slowly bringing Washington State back from years of painful rebuilding, and they made a bowl game for the first time in a decade last season.
Prediction: This will be a close matchup. Leach has a huge fanbase and might have a lot of upset potential at this spot. Shaw is well-liked and well-respected, but he is still fairly new to the head coaching establishment. Will he be able to move on?
