Cal lands 2015 3-star shooting guard Davon Dillard

Dillard becomes the first player in Cal's Class of 2015.

It has been a long time coming, Cal fans, but your team finally has a commit in the Class of 2015!

Davon Dillard, a 6-5 shooting guard from Gary, Indiana committed Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of his official visit.

Cal Golden Blogs did an awesome scouting report on Dillard early last month, which you can find right HERE. They noted his athleticism and ball handling ability. It's hard to argue the fact that he's athletic. In the first 20 seconds of the video below, alone, there are five or six dunks. He's also great at using spin moves or crossovers to lose defenders. His quickness and hustle are also top notch.

I do have a couple concerns about Dillard, though. For starters, he's teammates with top-5 recruit Cheick Dallo right now, so it's not crazy to say that Dillard isn't generally the main focus of defenses. Dallo is. That leaves openings for Dillard that i'm not fully sure he's going to be afforded at Cal. I'm also not sure how well his style of play will hold up against teams like UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, or Oregon State, who are all getting high-caliber recruits next season.

One thing, however, is for sure. Dillard's stock is rising. If Cuonzo Martin can get one or two more players (Ivan Rabb and Caleb Swanigan, perhaps?) to go alongside Dillard, California will be right in the hunt next year in a very loaded, and talented, Pac-12.
