Week 5 Pac-12 Predictions

(4-2) last week, (24-9) on the season

Friday Sept, 22
#7 USC (4-0) vs #35 Washington State (4-0) 730pm PT, ESPN
Line: USC -3.5
Win Probability: USC 84.72%

#10 USC Offense vs. #57 Washington State Defense

#29 Washington State Offense vs. #9 USC Defense

Whooh boy! Smart guy over here picked Wazzu to win this one in my preseason Pac-12 predictions. I think going undefeated is pretty hard, so I picked this game for USC to stumble. I don't know if I am buying that anymore. The USC offensive line hasn't look great and they have made Sam Darnold look pretty human of late. All that said, USC has played really well so far and I just can't see the WSU team putting it together enough to pull of the upset.

Pick
USC 34 WSU 28

Saturday
#71 ASU (2-2) vs. #16 Stanford (2-2) 1pm PT, Pac-12
Line: Stanford -17
Win Probability: Stanford 87.32%

#41 ASU Offense vs. #33 Stanford Defense

#14 Stanford Offense vs. #70 ASU Defense

The San Diego State Consolation Bowl! I am not totally sold on the Stanford offensive renaissance, but clearly giving the ball to Bryce Love is way smarter than trying to do anything else. Lucky for them ASU is still not great at defense so this should not be a major issue. The Stanford defense did a pretty good job slowing down a good UCLA offense last week so I think they can turn around and do it again against ASU. Graham hushed the mob for a moment with last week's win, but if they get blown out in Palo Alto I think the villagers are out in force again.

Pick
Stanford 59 ASU 23

#6 Washington (4-0) vs #96 Oregon State (1-3) 5pm PT, Pac-12
Line: Washington -26.5
Win Probability: Washington 98.54%

#4 Washington Offense vs. #122 Oregon State Defense

#50 Oregon State Offense vs. #20 Washington Defense

I hope the Beavers really made their bye week count. They are going to need an actual miracle at home. The Gary Andersen era, which looked to be going well last year, did not turn the corner many of us expected this year. This game could send it in an entirely different direction in the minds of OSU fans.

Pick
Washington 63 Oregon State 13

#34 Colorado (3-1) vs #36 UCLA (2-2) 730pm PT, ESPN2
Line: UCLA -7.0
Win Probability: Push 50.00%

#69 Colorado Offense vs. #75 UCLA Defense

#16 UCLA Offense vs. #14 Colorado Defense

This game matter an awful lot for both teams. Somebody had to finish second in the South and these are the two likeliest contenders; at least until we see Utah play somebody with a pulse (next week!). This game also matters a ton for Jim Mora. who needs to pick it up after getting beat by his nemesis David Shaw; again. Mora looks like he is in trouble right now, but a win here should push
the Bruins in the right direction.

Pick
UCLA 23 Colorado 21

#53 Cal (3-1) vs #33 Oregon (3-1) 730pm PT, FS1
Line: Oregon -13.5
Win Probability: Oregon 71.08%

#79 Cal Offense vs. #48 Oregon Defense

#21 Oregon Offense vs. #25 Cal Defense

Both of these teams had disappointing Pac-12 debuts, but Oregon's was worse. Cal kept it pretty close with USC most of the game and Justin Wilcox looks like a miracle worker on defense. Oregon just flat blew it against a bad ASU team on the road. Oregon is pretty young, mistakes like that will happen with a new staff, but they have to get back up and learn from it here if they want to stay relevant in the North late into this year. Cal isn't going to be a walk over and Oregon seems to lack 4 quarters of focus in games.

Pick
Oregon 31 Cal 24

Ain't Played Nobody: #67 Utah

Not Even Watching Football Anymore: #72 Arizona
