Caleb Kelly top 10: TCU, Notre Dame, Alabama, UW, Oregon, UCLA, FSU, Oklahoma, Michigan, LSU

Let's break it down.

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Fresno (Ca.) Clovis West linebacker Caleb Kelly is probably the number one prospect in the West Coast. Let's break down his top ten, school by school.

TCU Horned Frogs (for more on TCU, check out Frogs of War): This is a great sign for TCU. Their defenses have always been known for their saltiness, and now Kelly is acknowledging how much he respects their defensive tradition.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (for more on the Irish, hit up One Foot Down): Notre Dame has always had a California pipeline and have to be considered a threat. They also have a strong history of linebacker play.

Alabama Crimson Tide (for more on Alabama, hit up Roll Bama Roll): Almost seems inevitable Bama ends up on this list. They're always a threat, although they haven't really managed to land California prospects.

Washington Huskies (for more on Washington, go to UW Dawg Pound): Washington makes it! Huge for the program. The Huskies do have the selling point of putting multiple players into the NFL draft, likely as first round picks.

Oregon Ducks (for more on Oregon, go to Addicted to Quack): Oregon is the premier West Coast school at the moment.

UCLA Bruins (for more on UCLA, go to Bruins Nation): If Kelly goes to a West Coast program, UCLA would likely be the one. They're the closest program on the list and UCLA has produced impressive defensive recruiting results recently.

Florida State Seminoles (for more on FSU, go to Tomahawk Nation): Florida State is always going to be hitting up the West Coast for the best. This is going to be a tough catch.

Oklahoma Sooners (for more on Oklahoma, hit up Crimson and Cream Machine): Huge sleeper. Oklahoma has opened up the pipeline to Northern California, particularly in the Fresno area.

Michigan Wolverines (for more on Michigan, go to Maize N Brew): Also expect a huge push by Jim Harbaugh and company. Michigan is going to hit California hard and Harbaugh has plenty of recruiting connections in-state.

LSU Tigers (for more on LSU, go to And the Valley Shook): LSU seems to offer every top 250 national prospect. They're probably a long shot.

The most interesting thing is who Kelly did not put in his top ten: The USC Trojans, who would probably be considered the favorite by many pundits if they were on the list. Their absence is huge. It's a wide open field.
