You know what you're going to get from Kyle Whittingham at Pac-12 Media Day. Which is not very much and not anything too interesting. Whittingham is all business at these things, putting masks on top of masks outside of meeting KISS a week or so back. The only thing we know about him is that he's Mike Leach's ideal bear-hunting man, although I somehow doubt either of them have gone bear hunting together. So we really know nothing about him.

And maybe that's just the way he likes it. Whittingham has always been a no-nonsense coach, and Utah can't afford too many frills this year. It's approaching win or else territory for Whitt. He's recorded two losing seasons in a row and missed his best shot to win the Pac-12 in the first year he was in the conference.

Here are some of the best quotes from Whittingham in Pac-12 Media Day.

Goals for the season: "We have 2 main objectives this season: keep QB healthy and win close games..." (Credit: Utah Athletics)

On college football playoff: It will expand in the near future. There's too much money involved. He's  not optimistic for chances of non-Power 5 making CFB playoff field, expects they would have to be undefeated w/ strong SOS.

On the Pac-12: The conference has made huge strides top to bottom.

On expectations for the season: "This is a big year for us. We gotta get over the proverbial hump."

On whether he wanted to make the trip to Los Angeles: "I'm not like Rich Rod. I really want to be here."

On quarterbacks: Travis Wilson has been cleared with no limitations, which was the best news of the offseason. Evaluating Kendal Thompson will be a priority during fall camp.
