Scooby Wright injury update: Rich Rodriguez doesn't think it's an ACL or MCL, dad says it's not serious

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

The Wildcats might have lost the best defensive player in the country Thursday night, but it's uncertain how long.

The Arizona Wildcats survived a series of suspensions to key players for violations and injuries to hold off the pesky UTSA Roadrunners, but the concern is their All-American linebacker Scooby Wright, who left in the first quarter  with an apparent non-contact knee injury and did not return. Wright later was seen with ice on his knee and talking to his parents, and spent the second half walking with a cane on the sidelines.

Rich Rodriguez admitted after the game that he does not know how long Wright will be out, but he did say he doesn't think it's an ACL or or MCL tear. So you'd have to guess that initial tests were inconclusive. It could be a sprain, it could be a tear, it could mean Scooby is out for a little bit or a long time. We will only know after the tests are made. Rodriguez says an MRI will be done later tonight to try and figure out

Arizona already has lost starting linebacker Cody Ippolito for the year, so they're already down one of their starting three linebackers. The Wildcats replaced Wright with Haden Gregory, who struggled early but eventually settled in.

UPDATE: Scooby's dad says he doesn't think the injury is serious.
