All your bowls now belong to us

So with the Pac-12 regular season now concluded I thought I’d share with you these charts I just worked out on the bowl possibilities for the Pac-12 given the two possible outcomes of the Pac-12 championship game and the BCS at large chances.  For the purposes of these charts I assumed that a bowl would not take a 6-6 team over a 7-5 team.  Also please note that I put a question mark next to UCLA in the scenarios in which they lose the Pac-12 Championship and finish with a 6-7 overall record as I believe I read somewhere that with a losing record UCLA would have to get a waiver from the NCAA to play in a bowl game.

Oregon wins the Pac-12 Championship & Stanford gets a BCS at-large bid

Bowl Game

Rose

Oregon

At large BCS

Stanford

Alamo

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Holiday

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Sun

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Vegas

Arizona State

Kraft

UCLA?

New Mexico

N/A

Under this possibility you see that the Pac-12 has three 7-5 teams making their bowl locations being in San Antonio, San Diego, or El Paso.

Oregon wins the Pac-12 Championship & Stanford does not get a BCS at-large bid

Bowl Game

Rose

Oregon

At large BCS

N/A

Alamo

Stanford

Holiday

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Sun

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Vegas

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Kraft

Arizona State

New Mexico

UCLA?

I would not put it past the BCS to screw over the Pac-12 so here’s a scenario where Stanford does not get a BCS at large bid and is relegated to the Alamo Bowl.

UCLA wins the Pac-12 Championship & either Oregon or Stanford get a BCS at-large bid

Bowl Game

Rose

UCLA

At large BCS

Stanford OR Oregon

Alamo

Oregon OR Stanford

Holiday

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Sun

Vegas

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Kraft

Arizona State

New Mexico

N/A

Hey remember everyone the Inaugural Pac-12 Championship Game has yet to be played and with Neuheisel’s job on the line it may be possible for UCLA to pull an upset.  If so then all bets are off on how the rest of the BCS will react.  Here’s a possibility where one team Oregon or Stanford still gets a chance to play in a BCS game.

UCLA wins the Pac-12 Championship & Oregon and Stanford both get a BCS at-large bid

Bowl Game

Rose

UCLA

At large BCS

Oregon & Stanford

Alamo

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Holiday

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Sun

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Vegas

Arizona State

Kraft

N/A

New Mexico

N/A

Under this scenario Christmas comes early for the Pac-12 and it gets three teams in BCS games.  With the way the BCS rankings have been this is unlikely but if Oregon is out of the Rose Bowl will another BCS Bowl find some love for the Ducks while still making room for Stanford?

UCLA wins the Pac-12 Championship & neither Oregon or Stanford gets a BCS at-large bid

Bowl Game

Rose

UCLA

At large BCS

N/A

Alamo

Oregon

Holiday

Stanford

Sun

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Vegas

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

Kraft

Washington OR Cal OR Utah

New Mexico

Arizona State

If Oregon loses will the BCS find any respect for the Pac-12 to give them another at-large bid?  Probably not, if this is the case then we see a chance for the Pac-12 to fill in all of its bowl tie-ins.

Most likely scenario

Bowl Game

Rose

Oregon

At large BCS

Stanford

Alamo

Washington

Holiday

Cal

Sun

Utah

Vegas

ASU

Kraft

UCLA?

New Mexico

N/A

Let’s get real, Oregon will almost certainly win the Pac-12 Championship game and go to the Rose Bowl.  Given the year Stanford has had they will likely get an at large berth in a BCS game.  For the 7-5 teams Washington has beaten both Cal and Utah, which makes them more attractive to the Alamo Bowl.  Then with Berkeley being closer to San Diego then Salt Lake City is, expect the Holiday Bowl to then grab up Cal leaving the Sun Bowl for Utah.  Vegas then can choose between ASU and UCLA (assuming it gets a waiver).   Since both schools are close to Las Vegas I could see either team going there, but I’m going to assume that Kraft would prefer a California team and work out a deal with the Vegas bowl so that UCLA can fight hunger while the Sun Devils head to Sin City.
