DirecTV and the Pac-12 are miles away from a deal, which means barring a miraculous turn of negotiations, you're probably going to be waiting a long time for any potential deal to take place. If you're a DirecTV customer who wants the network, you could be waiting a long time for carriage, so it might be best to take the proactive step and cancel your service and find another provider and/or find an additional provider who does carry the network. Whatever works best for you and all that.

Wilner believes Charter will follow DirecTV's lead and hold the company line, which is significant because it is one of the main providers in the Southern California area, a huge district for Pac-12 fans of all teams. If you're in Southern California, that probably leaves you with Time Warner for cable and Dish Network for satellite.

There are no updates on negotiations with teleco companies like FiOs or U-Verse.

Obviously it is frustrating not to see a deal get done with the nation's best satellite provider of sports coverage, but that appears to be the price we all have to pay for the needed carriage in regional markets (while at least maintaining baseline national coverage via Dish).
